COVID: The Impact On Teaching And Learning

Almost everyone has been used to the traditional way of teaching and learning over the years, which is face-to-face classroom sessions. Has COVID-19 forced us to use a better approach?

It is an open fact that ever since Covid-19 hit the globe, things have never been the same. A lot changed, including the modus operandi of teaching and learning. An online approach to teaching and learning quickly became the norm. Institutions like ours had to adjust and explore an online approach which has even increased our enrollment and reach.

We believe that in every negative situation there is something positive that can be generated.

From primary school to tertiary, online learning has been fast adopted. The pace at which science and technology are developing is pointing us to more efficient ways of teaching and learning. As an institution, we are gradually looking at adopting a complete online program for our courses.

Is online learning effective?

The answer is a big and resounding YES. Online learning is as effective as regular face-to-face learning. Yes, there are notable differences, but the effect I believe is the same. The effectiveness of learning online will be dependent on the discipline of the learner to focus on the lessons being received as well as the diligence of the teacher. Many have the impression that learning online is substandard, and this is because they feel the regular class is more real and ideal. However, that notion is wrong and does not subject itself to the times and dispensation we find ourselves in.

The world in which we live is fast changing and the earlier educational institutions adopt or make use of technology and more efficient means of teaching and learning, the better.

COVID-19 has had a negative impact on our world, but it has also forced us to accept the reality of online teaching and learning.
